Admissions

The staff, governing body and pupils of Avenue Primary School would welcome you applying for a place at our school. To do this you must follow the correct process for your child’s age as detailed below.

We are a school maintained by the London Borough of Newham which means they are the admission authority for this school. If you would like to apply for a place in our school from Reception to Year 6, applications must be made through London Borough of Newham’s Pupil Services, not this school.

To apply for a nursery place, please contact the school directly.

Nursery Admissions

Nursery Admissions

Admissions to Nursery are handled by the school directly in accordance to guidance from London Borough of Newham. Children are taken into the Nursery from the age of 3 years old. The usual point of entry is at the beginning of the academic year in September. If places become available, then entry may be possible throughout the year.

Application forms are available on the link below. Please note that you can apply up to a year in advance. If you do this, please do keep us informed of any change of address or contact details – including if you move out of the area and will therefore no longer need the place.

In London since 2004, the 33 London boroughs and some of the Home Counties operate a Pan London coordinated scheme 2022/23 (PDF). Every family must apply to their home borough. This means if a family live in Newham they must apply through Newham even if their child attends a primary school outside of Newham or they are only interested in a secondary school in another borough.

Remember, parents/carers must apply for a place, even if:

  • They want their child to go to the local school.
  • OR Their child has an older brother or sister at the school.

The law does not allow us to reserve secondary school places.

Before submitting a year 7 application we strongly recommend all families read the autumn 2021 edition of the local authorities ‘We are moving to Secondary School’ guide and find out information about the school you are interested in. If possible look at their virtual tours.

Fair Access

The law requires that each local authority must have a Fair Access Protocol (FAP), agreed with the majority of schools in its area to ensure that for In Year admissions unplaced children, especially the most vulnerable, are offered a place at a suitable school as quickly as possible. In agreeing a protocol, the local authority must ensure that no school – including those with available places – is asked to take a disproportionate number of children who have been excluded from other schools, or who have challenging behaviour.

Avenue Primary School has signed up to the LB Newham’s Fair Access Protocol.
