SEND & Inclusion

Inclusion is essential to all we do at Avenue.

Pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are included in all aspects of school life.  The curriculum is appropriately adapted to meet their holistic and varied needs, ensuring that the outcomes are aspirational regardless of these needs. Staff have high expectations and ambitious targets are set for all pupils, including those who have additional needs.

The school adheres to the statutory guidance set out in the SEND Code of Practice: 0-25 2015, relating to Part 3 of the Children’s and Families Act 2014.  Pupils’ needs are identified early on in their learning journey. A robust process of assess, plan, do and review is implemented to ensure barriers to their learning are reduced and pupils reach their full potential in a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment. Attainment and progress is regularly tracked to ensure progress and outcomes are improving.

Appropriate provision is made for pupils with SEND to fully develop their abilities, interests and aptitudes and ensure maximum access to the curriculum.  As a result of this, every child is confident, resilient, curious, motivated and thoughtful.  Self-worth and enthusiasm is promoted by encouraging independence at all age and ability levels.

Where required, specialist services are consulted to seek advice in knowing how to best support pupils with SEND and involved in reviewing and monitoring the impact of this. Parents and carers are at all times involved in deciding how best to support pupils with SEND.
